Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Graham Cattle Co. been in business?
Our family has been raising cattle in Central Texas for over 70 years. Ranching isn’t just our business — it’s our heritage.
What makes Graham Cattle Co. beef different from grocery store beef?
Our beef is locally raised in Central Texas, processed at a USDA-inspected facility, and dry-aged for about 14 days to deepen flavor and tenderness. Grocery store beef is often shipped from multiple states (or countries), mixed between animals, and never aged the way true ranch beef should be.
Buying direct means fresher beef, better taste, and lower pricing than premium cuts in stores.
Is your beef USDA inspected?
Yes. All animals are processed at Texas Natural Meats, a USDA-inspected facility in Lott, TX. This allows us to legally offer individual cuts, beef boxes, and ship-ready packaging (even if we’re currently local-only).
How does pricing work for Whole and Half Cow Shares?
Our pricing is designed to be fair, transparent, and tied directly to national beef values.
Here’s the simplified version:
We deliver your cow to the butcher on the next processing date.
The butcher records the hanging weight.
Your cost is based on the national beef average, with customers typically saving significantly compared to grocery store pricing.
You only pay for the beef you actually take home — your finished beef weight.
Your deposit is applied to your total invoice.
Most families pay:
Half Cow: $1,500–$2,200
Whole Cow: $2,600–$3,500
Final totals vary by the size of the animal and the beef market at the time of processing.
Why does the national beef average affect the price?
The national beef market sets the real value of beef across the U.S. We use this average to keep pricing fair and consistent — ensuring customers receive high-quality, ranch-raised beef at a better rate than retail stores.
Is there an order minimum?
Yes — we have a $150 order minimum sitewide. You can mix and match any products to reach the minimum.
What is the deposit for Whole and Half cows?
Whole Cow Deposit: $500
Half Cow Deposit: $300
Your deposit reserves your share and is applied directly to your final invoice.
How much beef will I get?
A good rule of thumb:
Whole Cow: ~370–520 lbs finished beef
Half Cow: ~185–260 lbs finished beef
Finished weight is typically 61–65% of the hanging weight after trimming, aging, and custom cutting.
Will I need a lot of freezer space?
Freezer space estimates:
Half Cow: 7–10 cubic feet
Whole Cow: 14–20 cubic feet
A standard garage freezer typically holds a half cow comfortably.

Do I need to bring anything for pickup?
All beef is frozen, vacuum-sealed, and packaged in boxes for easy transport. Meat should be fine in its original boxes for moderate travel; however, if you are transporting meat farther away or traveling in hot Texas weather, it is recommended (but optional) to bring:
Your order confirmation
Multiple large coolers
Ice or ice packs (especially in warm weather)
When is final payment due?
Final invoices are sent after the butcher provides the hanging weight. Payment is due during the 14-day aging window before pickup.
When do cows go to the butcher?
We list all Butcher Drop-Off Dates on our website homepage so customers always know when their cow is headed for processing. When you place an order, you can expect to have your meat about 2 weeks after the next posted processing date.
Do you offer refunds?
Deposits are non-refundable, as each cow is reserved specifically for your order. If you need to adjust your order, please contact us as soon as possible.
